Bit depth
Bit depth
Bit depth controls how precisely a graph stores image samples. More precision can reduce banding and preserve a wider numeric range.
Eight-bit processing stores ordinary bounded samples. Native 16-bit processing preserves more steps for supported nodes. The 16F mode can preserve finite negative and above-one values through supported paths.
Unsupported nodes can downgrade a branch to eight-bit processing. The preview is a bounded display projection and is not proof that an export preserves the same numeric range.
PNG and TIFF support unsigned 16-bit grayscale export. OpenEXR preserves 16F values in the current floating-point export path.
