Noise

Noise

Use Noise for fast random variation when you need grain, dither, or stochastic masking. It is commonly filtered and remapped before being used as blend or warp control.

Availability

This node is available in the free feature set.

Common uses

  • Use low-frequency noise for broad breakup and high-frequency noise for detail.
  • Drive distortion, blend masks, or thresholding with noise outputs.

Input ports

  • None

  • No external image input required; parameters and seed control output.

Output ports

  • out

  • Outputs grayscale or multichannel noise depending on node settings.

Parameters

ParameterTypeDefaultRange or values
Seedint00 to 65535
Disorderfloat00 to 1
Multichannelboolfalse-
Non-Square Expansionbooltrue-

Behavior

  • Noise nodes are deterministic for a given seed and parameter set.
  • Different noise models create different value distributions and edge behavior.
  • Disorder animates the underlying noise ingredients on a perfect loop, so 1.0 returns to the same result as 0.0.

Common mistakes

  • Very high frequency values can alias at lower output resolutions.
  • When using seed-heavy graphs, keep seed strategy organized for reproducibility.
