Gradient
Gradient
Use Gradient to create controlled value ramps for masks, falloffs, and directional shading inputs. It typically drives blend factors, height transitions, or color-mapping chains.

Common uses
- Start graphs with one or more generator nodes, then route them into filters or mixing nodes.
- Combine with Levels, Curves, or Blend to shape the final look quickly.
Input ports
-
None
-
Usually no required image input; parameters define the output pattern.
Output ports
-
out -
Primary output is an image signal used by downstream nodes.
Parameters
| Parameter | Type | Default | Range or values |
|---|---|---|---|
| Type | enum | linear | linear, reflected, radial, circular |
| Rotation | enum | 0 | 0, 90, 180, 270, custom |
| Free Rotation | float | 0 | 0 to 360 |
| Center X | float | 0.5 | 0 to 1 |
| Center Y | float | 0.5 | 0 to 1 |
Behavior
- Generator nodes define the initial signal that propagates through the graph.
- Most generator outputs can be treated as grayscale unless the node is color-focused.
Common mistakes
- Large or high-contrast sources can amplify artifacts in downstream blur or warp chains.
- Keep source scale consistent before combining multiple generators.
