Gabor Noise

Gabor Noise

Use Gabor Noise to generate textured patterns based on Gabor wavelets — sinusoidal carriers windowed by Gaussian envelopes. Each cell contains one random wavelet impulse with hash-driven position and weight, evaluated over a 3×3 neighborhood for smooth continuity. Supports Fractal Brownian Motion (FBM) via octaves for multi-scale detail. The direction vector (from Angle) gives oriented fibrous textures.

Availability

This node requires Pro.

Common uses

  • Scale controls the cell (feature) size in pixels.
  • Frequency controls the underlying wave rate of the Gabor kernel.
  • Alpha controls the Gaussian envelope width (higher = more localized impulses).
  • Angle sets the direction of the Gabor wave (orientation of fibers).
  • Octaves enables fractal FBM stacking for multi-scale detail.
  • Persistence controls amplitude falloff per octave (higher = more high-frequency detail).

Input ports

  • None

  • No external image input required; parameters and seed control output.

Output ports

  • out

  • Outputs grayscale or multichannel noise depending on node settings.

Behavior

  • Gabor noise is deterministic for a given seed and parameter set.
  • Each cell has one random impulse; the 3×3 neighborhood ensures smooth transitions.
  • FBM mode stacks octaves with 2× frequency multiplier per octave.

Common mistakes

  • Very high frequency with low alpha may produce visible ringing or aliasing.
