Non-Uniform Blur
Non-Uniform Blur
Use Non-Uniform Blur to vary blur intensity across an image using a Blur Map. It allows pushing the blur into directional shapes using Anisotropy and biasing the sampling direction using Asymmetry, replicating complex lens effects and directional smears.
Availability
This node requires Pro.
Common uses
- Connect a mask to the Blur Map input to drive variable blur strength.
- Increase Blades to simulate polygonal aperture shapes.
Input ports
-
input -
blurMap -
Requires an image input signal and optionally a grayscale Blur Map.
Output ports
-
out -
Outputs a variably filtered image that preserves graph connectivity.
Parameters
| Parameter | Type | Default | Range or values |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intensity | float | 10 | 0 to 50 |
| Anisotropy | float | 0 | 0 to 1 |
| Asymmetry | float | 0 | 0 to 1 |
| Angle | float | 0 | 0 to 360 |
| Samples | int | 8 | 1 to 32 |
| Blades | int | 3 | 1 to 16 |
Behavior
- Detail filters operate on neighboring pixels and are sensitive to resolution.
- Performance scales with the product of Blades and Samples.
Common mistakes
- High sample counts heavily impact performance on high resolutions.
- Without a Blur Map, it acts as a uniform directional or radial blur depending on parameters.
